SCH8820S Heavy Duty Panic-Rated Mortise Lock Exit Device / Grooved Housing / Grade 1
- SCH8820S heavy duty panic-rated Mortise lock exit devices with grooved housing are used for all types of single and double doors.
- The Exit devices are available in the following finishes: US3, US4, US10, US10B, US26, US26D, US32D.
Quiet Solution (Option)
- A mechanical damper controls the motion and reduces the noise associated with the exit device operation to provide customers with a quieter environment.
- Specify “Quiet Solution” when ordering.
Panic-Rated Rim Exit Device:
- Mounted on the Door Surface: A rim exit device is mounted on the interior face of the door, with the bolt engaging the frame to secure the door.
- Spring-Loaded Latch Bolt: A spring-loaded latch bolt retracts automatically when the push bar is pressed, releasing the door quickly.
- Durable Construction: Made of materials like stainless steel or extruded aluminum to withstand heavy use in high-traffic areas.
- Safety Compliance: Certified by agencies like UL (Underwriters Laboratories) to meet standards for emergency egress.
Why Is Panic Hardware Required?
- Panic hardware is often mandated by building codes for certain types of buildings and areas, including but not limit to: schools, hospitals, commercial buildings, theaters and stadiums, etc.
Grooved Housing
- Appearance: Textured, industrial look.
- Durability: More resistant to wear and tear compared with smooth housing.
- Applications: High-traffic, utilitarian environments.
- Cost: Slightly lower compared with smooth housing.
- Maintenance: Hides damage but harder to clean grooves.

Device Length
The devices are precut for 36″ (914 mm) and 48″ (1219 mm) wide doors (standard shipping size), no additional cutting is necessary.
Short 36″: Device Length is 335/32″ (842 mm) for 3′ door use, with short push bar.
Long 48″: Device length is 45 ⅛″ (1146 mm) for 4′ door use, with long push bar.
For narrow doors, trim the “A” portion to fit a door width minus 2″ (51 mm).
Standard vertical rods fit 7′ (2134 mm) panic exit doors or 8′ (2438 mm) fire exit doors. For taller doors, specify the height when ordering to receive a longer top rod.
