SCH8710F Narrow Design Heavy Duty Fire-Rated Rim Exit Device / Grooved Housing / Grade 1

  • SCH8710F narrow design heavy duty fire-rated rim exit devices with grooved housing are designed to meet aesthetic requirements for wide stile single doors up to 4′ x 8′ (1219 mm x 2438 mm) or double metal or wood doors with mullions up to 8′ x 8′ (2438 mm x 2438 mm).
  • The Exit devices are available in the following finishes:
    US3, US4, US10, US10B, US26, US26D and US32D.

Fire-Rated Rim Exit Device:

  • Heat-Resistant Materials; UL Fire Door Hardware Certification; Durable Latching Mechanism; No Dogging Mechanism; Push Bar for Egress.

Where Is Fire-Rated Rim Exit Devices Are Required?

  • Stairwell Doors; Corridors in Fire Zones; Fire-Rated Barriers, etc.

Locking Mechanism

  • Uses a rim-mounted latch that secures the door by engaging the door frame directly.
  • The latch is surface-mounted, with a simpler mechanism compared to a mortise lock.

Mounting Configuration

  • The device is mounted on the interior face of the door, with the latch engaging the strike plate on the frame.
  • Easier to install as it does not require cutting into the door for the lock mechanism.

Grooved Housing

  • Appearance: Textured, industrial look.
  • Durability: More resistant to wear and tear compared with smooth housing.
  • Applications: High-traffic, utilitarian environments.
  • Cost: Slightly lower compared with smooth housing.
  • Maintenance: Hides damage but harder to clean grooves.

Device Length

The devices are precut for 36″ (914 mm) and 48″ (1219 mm) wide doors (standard shipping size), no additional cutting is necessary.

Short 36″: Device Length is 34 11/32″ (872 mm) for 3′ (914 mm) door use, with short push bar.

Long 48″: Device length is 46 5/16″ (1176 mm) for 4′ (1219 mm) door use, with long push bar.

For narrow doors, trim the “A” portion to fit a door width minus 2″ (51 mm).

Standard vertical rods fit 7′ (2134 mm) panic exit doors or 8′ (2438 mm) fire exit doors. For taller doors, specify the height when ordering to receive a longer top rod.
